In Late July, amidst one of the hottest days of the year, Kate and Mike said their I Do’s at their Villa de Lucca wedding. This one-of-a-kind celebration at a Tuscan-inspired venue was perfect for this couple who wanted a casual and fun wedding reception with no formal dinner and agenda.
Engagement Story
As a couple who is always on the go and who lives the van life, exploring new areas along the California coast is one of Kate and Mike’s favorite pastimes. On a sunny September evening, as the sun set on the cliffs, Montaña De Oro, Mike dropped to one knee and asked Kate to marry him. It was the perfect setting for this couple as it was one of their favorite and most visited spots along their journeys.

Villa de Lucca Wedding Venue
Nestled in the town of Templeton is a breathtaking 10-acre property surrounded by views of rolling vineyards in every direction. With beautiful gardens to enjoy, this Mediterranean-inspired wedding venue is home to an open-air wedding tent and a stunning hilltop wedding ceremony site. The exquisite property features lush gardens filled with lavender, rosemary, olive trees, tall grasses, and a Tuscan villa perfect for the wedding party and guests to stay on the wedding night.
Cocktail Style Wedding Reception
Not every couple wants a formal sit-down dinner at their wedding, and this is okay. I love how every wedding and every couple I have is unique! Kate and Mike wanted a relaxed wedding where guests could mix and mingle. That said, they opted for a cocktail-style wedding reception featuring heavy appetizers and grazing boards. It was the perfect meal pairing for this 105-degree day, nothing too heavy, stuffy, or hot.
Various types of seating were incorporated under their wedding tent to encourage guests to mix and mingle. Rustic wine barrel cocktail tables, cocktail tables with bar stools, small dining tables, and even lounges were used to provide a relaxed atmosphere for guests.
Details
As Kate’s mother married the couple, guests were provided the option to use paper parasol umbrellas to shield themselves from the California sun. At the ceremony, white florals with pops of terracotta-colored roses were used to line the ceremony aisle and later re-purposed as floral centerpieces for the guest tables.
The rustic and casual furniture at this wedding paired beautifully with the bride’s classic wedding vision with rustic, bohemian touches. One of my favorite details in the reception was the nod to the couple’s dog on the wedding cake. A figurine of the couple’s dog sat along with a custom name cake topper on the cake, which was an adorable custom detail.
Kate and Mike were a joy to work with as I helped them in the final few weeks leading up to their wedding day. This Villa de Lucca wedding was one to remember not only because of its unique cocktail-style reception but also because of the record-breaking temperatures that day.
